Friday Finds #12

Reviews have been slim and so has my reading. Instead of tearing my way through all the wonderful, wonderful books that are sitting and waiting and pleading to be read, I'm writing essays about global skepticism (pro-skepticism), Paradise Lost (Satan knew/listened to Eve better than Adam), and A Tale of Two Cities (the mob and loss of individuality). How dare I!

Really, though, I fully expect to have oodles of free time as soon as these three essays are officially turned in. (Random note: My spell check recognizes "oodles" as a real word, how awesome is that?)

In the meantime, here's what I got this week and why:

1. Lamentation by Ken Scholes
I actually purchased this book in preparation for the Borderlands event that I ended up not getting to go to due to the bridge being out and other academic reasons. Despite my ill fortune, I'm looking forward to reading Scholes' series, as I've only heard good things. Genre: Fantasy. (Purchased from Borders.)

2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Finally, it has arrived! I've been waiting to read this sequel on pins and needles since I finished The Hunger Games. As a little bonus, I also received a little mockingjay pin and a t-shirt with the book. Unfortunately the t-shirt is too large to wear anywhere but in bed or at the gym, but I love it all the same. Genre: Young Adult/Science Fiction/Fantasy. (Received as a thank you for hosting a giveaway.)

3. Zombies: A Record of the Year of the Infection by Don Roff and Chris Lane
Really, do I ever say 'no' to a zombie book? I read the summary of this one and thought it would be an interesting graphic novel version of Day by Day Armageddon with a medical bent. The review for this one is already up. Genre: Horror/Graphic Novel. (Received for review.)

4. Peter and Max by Bill Willingham and Steve Leialoha
For awhile now I've been wanting to get back into graphic novels. One of the series I have on my wishlist is Fables. Although I haven't yet picked up the actual series, I thought that this stand alone novelization would be a good place to start, too. Genre: Fantasy/Companion Novel. (Received for review.)

5. Jane-Emily by Patricia Clapp
It's only proper that I throw in a few horror books for October, right? I was lucky enough to win this one over at Book Reader Times in Ivy's massive October daily giveaways. Genre: Horror. (Won from Book Reader Times.)

6. A Confederation of Valor Tanya Huff
Tanya Huff is another one of those authors I've meant to get around to reading for a long time and just haven't yet. Luckily, I was looking for a new sci-fi series featuring an awesome woman and saw this. Omnibuses make my day because multiple books in one is made of awesome. Genre: Sci-fi. (Purchased from Borders.)

7. The Long Road Home Stephen King, Peter David, Robin Furth, and Richard Isanove
I told you I was trying to get back into graphic novels a bit. I figured easing in is the right way to go. A series I've read by an author I love should be "easy" enough, right? Genre: Horror/Graphic Novel. (Purchased from the Barnes & Noble bargain table.)

Statistics:
Total # of Books: 7 (+2 pieces of swag)
Genre Breakdown:
        Horror - 3
        Fantasy - 3
        Graphic Novel - 2
        Science Fiction - 2
        Young Adult - 1

Jane-Emily was one of my favorite books growing up. I don't remember how I came across it, but I remember loving it - and it scared the heck out of me! I know I have a copy somewhere on my bookshelves and now I'm going to have to read it again. Enjoy!

@Ivy: Books are always cool! ;)

@Jenn: I am rather curious about that one. I hadn't heard of it until I saw the contest! :)
