Happy Valentine's Day from Book Love Affair. Of course, it may not be a happy V-Day for you. What other holiday is quite so polarizing as one based around the fact you are either in a relationship or alone? At least, we readers, will always have books. How can one be alone, when one has a legion of authors in one's library waiting to offer comfort? For those who do feel down around this particular holiday, I assure you that you are not alone. In fact, D. E. Boone, author of Legs Talk: Let Your Legs do the Talking probably feels similarly. About her new book she says, "I wanted to confront the realities of our less than fairy-tale like relationships" (Quote provided by GLobal Force Media LLC).

The premise of Legs Talk: Let Your Legs do the Talking is a book aimed at the cynics and downtrodden left in the wake of Valentine's Day.

The book is done entirely in black and white. Generally, the format is a picture on one page with a short sentence on the opposing page. The pictures only show the waist and below of each model--hence the "Legs Talk" part. The "story", then is told by the legs and phrases:

Girl meets boy with leg fetish. Boy woos girl. Girl falls for boy. Boy disappears. Girl and boy break up.

The book isn't bad, I'd say...but I wouldn't have spent $10 for its scant 112 pages. (Remember half of those are pictures and there's never more than a single sentence on every other page.) The book could have been a cute look at all those relationships that go wrong, but there are several things holding Legs Talk back. Firstly, there are many pages that seem added in not because they made sense with the story, but because they seemed like cute ideas that the author wanted to fit in. Ultimately, it made the writing feel a little disjointed. Additionally, I felt some of the photos were just slapped onto the pages haphazardly. Some pictures, if they spread onto the second page, showed sloppy editing. One that comes to mind is the the image of the girl meditating ("Thinking of you...not!"), where her knee is chopped off awkwardly mid-page. Lastly, though I don't want to spoil, I found the last three pages to be a total "cop out"...

The idea is cute, but for $10--more than most mass market paperback books--I'd like to see a little better; however, one may consider it as a gift for a friend who needs a laugh after a break up.

Final Score: 2/5

I disagree. I love this great gift book. I give it 5 stars. Doing those get-over-him periods, when I eat too much chocolate, and remember too much, this little gem puts a smile on my face. Can’t put a price on that!

I'd have to agree that I probably wouldn't buy a book of this size at this price point. I like my books to have a little meat on their bones--and so does my boyfriend. When we're shopping for books, if he sees me with a novel under 250 pages in length, he always questions it. ("Will that last you more than a day? Maybe you should get something longer.") Of course, LEGS TALK probably wasn't designed to be read like the typical novel.

Isn't this a coffee table gift book? I don't think it was meant to be a novel. It is more of a quirky little ha ha book.

Pat, Number One Novels, and Yvonne, you're all right of course, in that it is a coffee table book and can't rightly be compared to a novel; however, I was disappointed with it still. And the price tag is certainly not something I'd pay because it did feel haphazardly done.

Thank you for spending the time to share your opinions. :3
